This is one of the best ways of saving resources, and often we do it without realising it e.g.
refilling a bottle with water, re-heeling shoes, buying a second hand car. By re-using goods,
we are preventing them from entering the waste stream, so they don’t have to be disposed of in
landfills or even recycled.
Some good ways to re-use items include:
Buy a re-usable shopping bag that can be used over and over again
Use re-chargeable batteries
Refill your computer cartridges (it can be cheaper too!)
Use old bottles and jars for storage
Use envelopes again by sticking labels on the front of them
Take old clothes and furniture to charity shops
Use a ‘nappy laundry service’ or ‘real nappies’ instead of disposables—in Northern Ireland
100 tonnes of them go to landfill every day!
Buy milk form a local delivery service in glass bottles
