Chances are, if you are eating strawberries in December, they are not local produced,
but from a country that gets sun in winter! Seasonal food is fresher, tastes better,
and is more nutritious than out-of-season food. There are several reasons for this:
Food
is not forced to grown quickly in artificial conditions. This can lead to watery,
flavourless produce.
Food left to ripen on the plant will contain more nutrients
than food picked early and left to ripen in artificial conditions.
Seasonal food guarantees you shorter times from field-to-plate,
whereas out-of-season food can be picked more than six weeks before you buy it.
